Yvette Short Film
A story ten years in the making.
Yvette began life as an award-winning stage play, first performed at East 15 before going on to the Fringe published by Oberon Books. Nearly a decade later, the story is entering its next chapter as a short film.
At its heart, Yvette is about confronting the person we've become and rediscovering the person we once were.
When 25-year-old Yvette comes face to face with her teenage self, she's forced to confront the choices, wounds and survival mechanisms that have shaped her life. Together, they embark on an emotional journey through memory, identity and healing, asking one powerful question:
Can we become someone our younger selves would be proud of?
Why This Film?
Some stories stay with you until you're ready to tell them properly.
When I first wrote Yvette, I wasn't yet ready to explore everything the story was asking of me. With time came perspective, and I realised this story was always meant to be told through film.
Now, Yvette has the opportunity to reach audiences in a new way—through an intimate, cinematic exploration of healing, Black womanhood and self-discovery.
