A NEW ERA: BECOMING A PRODUCER
Introducing Concrete Flower Productions
There comes a point in your creative life when you realise you don't just want to be part of the story.
You want to help decide which stories get told.
For me, that moment is now.
I’m incredibly proud to officially introduce Concrete Flower Productions — my new production company and the beginning of a new chapter in my career as a producer.
Concrete Flower is a Black-led production company creating original theatre, film and live cultural experiences. At its heart is a simple belief: great storytelling can create conversations, build community and contribute to cultural change.
But for me, this isn't just about starting a company.
It's about growing into a different role.
I've spent years developing my voice as an artist — writing, performing, creating, collaborating and finding ways to tell stories that matter to me.
Becoming a producer feels like the natural next step.
It means looking beyond my own performance.
It means asking:
What stories are missing?
Who gets to tell them?
Who gets the opportunity to make them?
What happens when we create the spaces ourselves?
Concrete Flower is my answer to some of those questions.
We're developing work across theatre, film, artist development, community and live cultural experiences, with original projects already beginning to take shape.
Some of those projects are stories I've been carrying for years.
Some are collaborations.
Some are ideas that are only just beginning.
And some will hopefully surprise even me.
One of the things I'm most excited about is that producing allows me to think about the whole ecosystem around a story — the artist, the audience, the venue, the community, the funding, the partnerships, the creative process and ultimately what the work leaves behind.
I don't want to simply make things.
I want to build things.
I want to create opportunities for artists.
I want to develop original work.
I want to work with people who have something urgent, beautiful, difficult, funny or necessary to say.
And I want Concrete Flower to become a home for those stories.
This is the beginning.
Not the finished version.
Not a perfectly mapped-out career.
Just the next chapter — and probably one of the most exciting ones.
I'm becoming a producer.
And I'm ready to see what grows.
